Child Protection

The objective of the Child Protection programme is to realise a safe environment for children and young people in which security prevails. The programme aims at teaching children and young people how to protect themselves. ICS Asia also wants to enable parents and communities to provide a safe environment for their children and young people.

ICS Asia wants to contribute to enhanced protection of children in situations of neglect, exploitation and violence, focusing on children affected by HIV/AIDS, children in/after conflict and disaster, violence against and exploitation of girls and boys, and children that are physically and mentally challenged.

The Child Protection Programme consists of three components:

  1. Awareness raising and capacity building. Many people in the regions where ICS is active either lack the knowledge on how to support children in the right way, are ignorant of legal mechanisms to protect children or fear legal action to be taken against child abusers (who are often relatives). ICS and its partners empower children and adults with knowledge and skills on issues like positive parenting, life skills and early warning and detection systems for child abuse and neglect.
  2. Linking partners with specific expertise to organised groups in the community to make sure that children have access to medical, legal, psychosocial and rehabilitative support.
  3. Advocacy; ICS will advocate on different levels for adequate implementation of existing laws, policies, traditional practices and complimentary structures that protect children.
